From the Mayor - 31 October 2019
The absolutely awesome 2019 Festival of Mosman came to a close last Sunday with the much loved Pet’s Day Out on the Village Green. Sadly the party is over, and Mosman is slowly returning to normal activity levels. The sun shone on our outdoor activities and the stars twinkled for our evening events and there were many highlights. Community feedback has been so positive and attendance numbers are well up on our 2017 figures. Council’s staff, particularly our Events Team, did a truly amazing job, with input and support from various local community groups and businesses, to deliver an absolutely wonderful community celebration.
Community consultation and preferential voting for the Balmoral Oval Restoration project has closed and Council will receive the results at the upcoming 12 November Council meeting. I am delighted with the impressive number of responses to this, with 625 residents having their say. This level of community engagement demonstrates that the expansion and enhancement of our online services is providing greater opportunities for residents to be involved. We are also seeing visitor numbers to our Council website growing annually to just under 400,000 last financial year.
At our October Council meeting I delivered a Mayoral Minute that I want to share again with residents because it is such a positive good news story. Mosman Council has won the Voice Project’s National Best Workplace Award. This award is based on Council’s exceptional results from its 2019 staff engagement survey, which were benchmarked against 50 NSW councils and more than 100 councils across Australia. Mosman Council is the only Council in Australia to date to receive this award.
In closing, I want to remind residents that all in-ground and car park installed parking sensors will be activated for parking management and enforcement purposes from Monday 18 November. Most restrictions stay the same although Council is changing the 4P restriction at the bottom of the Vista Street Car park to 3P and some of the 1P to 2P to better reflect the demand and length of stay there. If you haven’t already, now is the time to familiarise yourself with the Council’s Park Mosman app. My very best advice is stay within the time on the parking sign – and everything will be OK.
