From the Mayor - 23 June 2021
Concerningly, COVID-19 remains active within an increasing number of communities and here in Mosman we again need to remain vigilant. Avoiding another lock down is critical so I strongly encourage all residents to continue taking the utmost personal responsibility with regular hand hygiene, mask wearing, social distancing and, most importantly, getting vaccinated.
I want to thank residents for their participation in the recently conducted random community customer satisfaction survey. The statistically significant data will provide the newly elected Council with feedback that will be used to further enhance our engagement with the community, improve service levels and, most importantly, shine a light on areas that require improvement and attention.
The installation of the first of at least ten Play for all Australia accessible swings in Mosman is scheduled to occur on 16 July at Balmoral Playground. This social inclusion initiative, supported by both Council and the Mosman Chamber of Commerce will put Mosman on the map for the number of accessible swings in our children’s playgrounds.
It is very pleasing to see the newly opened Creation Space, just outside the Library, being so popular with residents of all ages. The first programs will be held for children and teens during the upcoming school holidays with the space offering a range of hands-on experiences to create, learn and develop digital literacy skills. Importantly, the space is due to expand in 2022, thanks to NSW Government grant funding, with the provision of additional space for filming and podcasting.
I want to thank you for your loyal readership, as this is the final formal column I will write in this current term of Council. The next two Mayoral columns will fall within the 40-day blackout period prior to the Local Government elections on 4 September so I will hand over the space to Council’s Communications Team to inform residents of issues and upcoming events. Rest assured all Council-related services will continue and it will be very much “business as usual” during this period.
In closing, stay safe and for those residents with school-aged children, enjoy the upcoming winter school holiday period.
