From the Mayor - 26 October 2022
The federal government has officially launched its second National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children with both prevention and the importance of working with men and boys receiving much greater emphasis. Addressing, and ultimately preventing violence against women and children must continue to be a national policy priority and it is critical that sustained and collective action is taken across all communities in Australia.
Here in Mosman, I urge residents to join me on our inaugural Walk for Women on Friday 25 November. The walk will commence at Rawson Oval at 10am and conclude at the Headland Park Artist Precinct at Georges Heights. The end of the walk will feature addresses by Kerry Chikarovski, Board Director of ‘Our Watch’, a national leader in primary prevention of violence against women and their children and Paul Devaney, Detective Superintendent and Commander, North Shore Police Area Command.
Changing focus entirely, I want to again remind residents that the Saturday Markets are returning on 5 November and 3 December, along with the ever popular Christmas Night Market on Thursday 8 December. The markets are then scheduled to re-open in July 2023 after the completion of the Mosman Square and Mosman Village Green upgrade.
There are still a number of Mosman’s fabulous Out and About special events remaining. Balmoral will play host to The Addams Family 2 movie on Saturday 29 October as Mosman celebrates Halloween Under the Stars. Another upcoming event at the Balmoral Rotunda is Ivan and Beth Hodge’s annual community party, which began at Balmoral in 2004. The Hodges are well known, long-time residents who invite the Mosman community to join their extended family celebration with the NSW Fire and Rescue Band commencing festivities at 11am on Sunday 6 November.
In closing, the Mosman Historical Society welcomes Brigadier Kevin O’Brien to Barry O’Keefe Library on Wednesday 9 November to tell the fascinating story of Middle Head’s military history and on Friday 11 November residents are welcome to attend the Mosman RSL Sub Branch’s annual Remembrance Day Commemorative Service, commencing at the Mosman Cenotaph at 10.30am and reaching its solemn conclusion at 11am.
Lest We Forget.
