From the Mayor - 25 February 2026

Posted on Wednesday 25 February 2026

Work is continuing to progress strongly on the Mosman Masterplan Project. I’m pleased to share that our General Manager, Craig Covich, together with our new Director of Environment and Planning, Vivienne Albin, met with the LMR Team at the NSW Department of Planning last week. This meeting is one of several scheduled to ensure we achieve the best possible outcome for Mosman. We are extremely fortunate to have Vivienne on board, bringing with her extensive experience leading large, government-driven master planning projects.

To stay informed about updates and the latest developments, regular progress reports on Mosman’s Long Term Strategic Masterplan are available at yourvoicemosman.com.au.

Supporting these Executive efforts, I recently chaired a Northern Sydney Mayors meeting with NSW Roads Minister Jenny Aitchison. A key focus of discussion was Transport for NSW’s long-awaited Northern Beaches Network Review, which has assessed traffic congestion, road safety and infrastructure. The Review, due for a March release, was commissioned post the cancellation of the Northern Beaches tunnel and the metro station from Crows Nest to Frenchs Forest. I will keep residents informed and will actively encourage you to have your say as traffic congestion is such a chronic and increasing problem in Mosman.

With little information available, the proposed sale of Commonwealth Defence land at Middle Head is of major concern to residents and Council. I will present a Mayoral Minute at our upcoming March Council meeting, as well as a motion at the upcoming Local Government Annual General Assembly, seeking urgent clarification from the Federal Government of the proposal. I will also highlight the essential need to protect the long-term national interest, community wellbeing and the importance of preserving precious public fauna and flora at Middle Head from any future development.

In the lead up to International Women’s Day, I attended several inspiring events, including the official Parliamentary Launch of International Women’s Day hosted by UN Women Australia in Canberra. I am looking forward to speaking with Jean Kittson AM at our IWD event on Friday 6 March. A highly respected author, scriptwriter and actor with more than three decades of experience across television, theatre and radio, Jean is also a respected charity ambassador and Mosman local.

Later that day, I will launch the Mosman Seniors Festival at a Sparkling High Tea event, kicking off a vibrant two weeks of wonderful activities and events. You can find out about the festival at events.mosman.nsw.gov.au.
