Underwater world

New signage at Clifton Gardens is sharing a glimpse of the underwater world and raising awareness of work to save the endangered White’s seahorse. 

Council collaborated with the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS) to develop and install the new interpretive sign at the entrance to Chowder Bay Wharf. 

The sign has information on the Sydney Seahorse project, detailing conservation efforts, and highlighting how community members can be involved as citizen scientists. 

Marine scientists from SIMS, the University of Technology Sydney and the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, have been leading a world-first conservation stocking program to reintroduce captive-bred seahorses into the wild. 

Artificial habitats called “seahorse hotels” have been installed in areas where habitats have been lost, including at Chowder Bay.
