Resident petition on State planning changes
A resident-led petition on State Government planning changes is open for signatures via the NSW Parliament website.
Titled 'Spit Bridge Gridlock Needs a Solution' and lodged by Mr Mark Longhurst, the ePetition states that NSW is experiencing a housing crisis, however a one-size-fits-all approach will not deliver long-term, infrastructure-ready communities.
It asks the Legislative Assembly to call on the NSW Government to:
- review the Spit Bridge and Spit Road/Military Road corridor’s capacity to absorb significant additional traffic that will result from increased housing density as a result of the planning reforms; and
- exempt or defer planning reforms for affected councils that meet or exceed their mandated housing targets so traffic and infrastructure needs can be assessed before further development proceeds.
The ePetiton is open until 12 February 2026 and can be accessed via the NSW Parliament website.
Petitions allow members of the public to directly place their issues before the Parliament. A petition helps raise awareness of an issue in the community and lets Members of Parliament know what action the community wants the Parliament to take, but it doesn't compel the Parliament to take action.
Mosman Council resolved at its August meeting, when considering a report on planning changes by the State Government and addresses by members of the public, to share a proposed resident-led petition, once it became active, on Council's website.
