Ann Marie Kimber has been elected Mayor of Mosman for the 2024 - 2028 Council term following declaration of the 14 September poll.
 
Cr Kimber is joined by returning Councillors Roy Bendall, Carolyn Corrigan, Pip Friedrich, Simon Menzies and Michael Randall, along with new Councillor Colleen Godsell.
 
Council thanks outgoing Councillors Libby Moline who served for 16 years and Sarah Hughes who served for three years.
 
The new Council will be formally inducted at its first meeting scheduled for Tuesday 8 October 2024.

Work is underway to improve lighting along the Balmoral Promenade ahead of the peak summer holiday season. 

Existing infrastructure is being replaced between Edwards Beach at the northern end and Balmoral Jetty at the southern end. 

The project is due for completion by the end of November, weather permitting, with works undertaken in sections to minimise inconvenience to the public. 

Existing lights are being replaced with LED technology to enhance efficiency, with a projected 40 per cent energy saving.

Community organisations have received a funding boost to provide programs and services that benefit Mosman. 

Council awarded a total of $69,972 to 25 community organisations under its 2024/25 Community Grants Program. 

Representatives from community groups attended Mosman Civic Centre on 28 August for an official presentation. 

Funding will be used for a range of projects and initiatives including dance and music programs, resilience and support for young people, sporting skills, work experience and other resources for people living with disability, community gardening, environmental programs, domestic violence support and upgraded facilities and equipment.

The 2024 Mosman Art Prize, the premier open painting prize in Australia, has been awarded to Sydney based artist Gemma Smith.  

Smith won the $70,000 acquisitive prize for Pollen Prism, made through the accumulation of many single layers applied on a daily basis while on a New York based artist’s residency. It now enters the celebrated Mosman Art Collection, a valuable and historic collection that surveys Australian painting. Smith is a noted painter whose abstract paintings and sculptures explore the interaction between colour and surface, intention and chance. 

Mosman Mayor Carolyn Corrigan and the 2024 judge Julie Ewington presented the prize at the exhibition opening on Friday 9 August at Mosman Art Gallery. 

Further awards presented on the night included the Margaret Olley Commendation Award ($10,000) given to Khaled Sabsabi, the Allan Gamble Award (for the built environment) valued at $5,000 won by Nick Santoro, and the Guy Warren Emerging Artist Award ($3,000) presented to Jacquie Meng.   

The 2024 Mosman Art Prize attracted 1,617 entries from across Australia with 88 paintings selected for finalist exhibition. Artists from all states and territories were selected as finalists. 

The exhibition is on show at Mosman Art Gallery from 10 August to 6 October. Entry is free.
