Council Amalgamations – Minister’s Invitation to Councillors for Expressions of Interest
Following discussion on the Minister for Local Government’s invitation to Councillors to participate in interim arrangements for newly merged Councils, it was resolved that Council seek an urgent meeting with the Premier and Minister for Local Government to request:
1. The State Government commit to maintain true, elected, representative, local democracy and avoid the risk of actual or perceived party political bias and conflict of interest associated with the Expression of Interest
2. The immediate withdrawal of the Expression of Interest for Councillors
3. In the event that the NSW Government decides to force an amalgamation of Mosman Council with other councils, against the wishes of the Mosman community, Mosman Council requests that the Minister for local Government at least respects the mandate of Mosman’s popularly elected Mayor, and request that the Mosman Mayor be asked to represent the Mosman Community as an Administrator or as a Councillor on the new merged council until elections are held for the new Council
