From the Mayor - 26 March 2025

Posted on Wednesday 26 March 2025

A love of Mosman’s village atmosphere, along with concerns about urban development, are themes that are consistently raised in consultation and engagement that Council undertakes with our community.

So, it is no surprise that recent planning changes announced by the NSW Government on low and mid-rise housing are generating discussion and questions from the community.

As a Council we remain concerned about these profound changes that overrule Council’s own carefully considered and established planning controls, that have been developed through extensive community consultation and with a clear understanding of local infrastructure needs.

In response, Councillors unanimously endorsed a motion at our March meeting to hold a public forum on the NSW government’s planning changes. This town hall meeting will be held on Wednesday 9 April, from 7pm to 8.30pm, at Allan Border Oval Pavilion. Community members can register online to attend via bit.ly/PlanningChangesMosman

Over the next month Mosman is shining a spotlight on youth talent, celebrating the achievements of young people.

The Mosman Youth Art Prize exhibition is showing from 29 March to 4 May at Mosman Art Gallery, showcasing over 240 artworks created by our next generation of artists.

During April, Youth Week will provide a fantastic opportunity to highlight the skills and contributions of our young people, through free activities and events including the annual ‘Raise the Youth’ event at Mosman Youth Centre. Additional workshops and events will take place from 9-17 April, with full program details available at events.mosman.nsw.gov.au

During April school holidays, even more activities will be on offer for primary and high school students across our civic venues. And with Easter approaching, many will take the opportunity to take a break and unwind with family and friends. For those of you heading away or travelling on the roads, take care and have a safe and enjoyable break.

This time of the year is also a time to reflect and commemorate as we approach Anzac Day. Friday 25 April 2025 will mark the 110th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings, and serves as an opportunity to honour all Australians who have served in times of peace and war.

In Mosman, the Anzac Day Dawn Service will be led by Mosman RSL Sub-Branch, commencing at 5.30am at Georges Heights Parade Ground.

Lest we forget.
