From the Mayor - 29 January 2025
I hope everyone enjoyed a safe and happy holiday season and found time to relax with family and friends. As we step into 2025, it’s wonderful to see a number of new restaurants opening in Mosman, enhancing our evening vibrancy. I encourage all residents to embrace and support these and other local businesses throughout the year to keep our village thriving and vibrant.
On Australia Day, we had the privilege of conferring 60 new citizens from 29 countries to Mosman at our citizenship ceremony. It was also an honour to announce Susie Agoston as our Mosman Citizen of the Year. Susie has greatly enriched the Mosman community through her contributions to the arts, sports, education, and philanthropy, from curating Indigenous art exhibitions to leading bush regeneration at Memory Park, coaching netball teams, and spearheading fundraising efforts. She is a very deserving Mosman Citizen of the Year.
December brought exciting news for Mosman. Not only was our new facilities block at Middle Head Oval approved by the Harbour Trust, but we were also successful in securing a $2 million grant from the Federal Government to bring this much-needed project to life.
We also received news of a remarkable achievement by a Mosman resident. The SkyJuice Foundation, founded by Rhett Butler, was awarded the prestigious 2025 Zayed Sustainability Prize in the Water category. This global recognition honours the foundation’s incredible work in providing affordable, sustainable, and safe drinking water to communities in need across the developing world.
February brings plenty of activity to Mosman. The Mosman Market kicks off its 2025 season on Saturday, 1 February, followed by the first Council meeting of the year on Tuesday, 4 February. The Artists of Mosman 2088 exhibition also opens at the Mosman Art Gallery on 15 February, showcasing the creativity of our residents, Art Gallery members, and volunteers.
Meanwhile, works continue on the Reid Park playground upgrade, which will feature new play equipment, a shade structure, and landscaping, informed by community feedback.
As students prepare to return to school, I hope everyone has set their goals for the year. Mine include working with Councillors and the Council Executive to complete Mosman’s 10-year strategic plan and continuing to lead our wonderful suburb into the future.
Wishing you all a great year ahead!
