Showdown for the ages
Mosman seniors have toppled the teens in a very special table tennis showdown that’s proving a big hit for the ages.
Each year as part of the Mosman Seniors Festival, a team of young guns are bused from the Mosman Youth Centre to take on players from the Seniors Centre, with about 20 young people making the trip this time.
What began a dozen years ago as a friendly competition, has grown into a much-anticipated highlight on the sporting calendar.
Teams were vying for the Marcel Weyland trophy, named in honour of the much-loved club member and regular player, who passed away last year at age 96.
The seniors won every title for the first 11 years of the tournament before the youth side scored a maiden victory last year.
For the record, the senior side reclaimed the 2026 trophy and are already gearing up for the next showdown.
