Council Decided – 25 January 2022

The first meeting of the 2021-2024 Council term was held on 25 January 2022. Councillor Carolyn Corrigan  will serve as Mayor of Mosman for the term of Council, and is joined by Councillors Roy Bendall, Simon Menzies and Libby Moline who served on the previous term of Council and new Councillors Pip Friedrich, Sarah Hughes and Michael Randall.  

Induction of new Council and thanks to former Councillors

All Councillors for the 2021-2024 term were formally inducted by taking an oath or affirmation of office. The Mayor also delivered a series of Mayoral Minutes thanking outgoing Councillors Tom Sherlock, who stepped down after 13 years and David Cook and Jacqui Willoughby who both served for five years.

Councillor Menzies was elected as Council’s Deputy Mayor until September this year.

Membership of Committees and Other Groups

A series of resolutions were passed in relation to the nature and composition of Council Committees for the 2021-2024 Council term, as well as membership of internal and external groups and Committees. Notably, Council reaffirmed the continuation of its Access & Mobility, Active Transport, Arts & Culture and Climate Action Community Consultative Committees and resolved to call for Expressions of Interest for community representation on each. Councillor membership of all continuing Committees and other bodies was also determined and, in relation to future nominations for membership of the Taronga Conservation Society Australia Board, it was agreed that Council seek Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified people. The continuation of the Visual Amenity Community Consultative Committee, as well as the Expenditure Review and Urban Planning Committees, will be subject to further consideration by Council and action will be progressed to formally dissolve the Mosman Art Trust.

Council Meeting Schedule

Council endorsed its Meeting Schedule for 2022. With the exception of November (when the meeting will be held on the second Tuesday), Council meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of the month, commencing at 7pm. Local Traffic Committee meetings (with the exception of November, when the meeting will be held on the second Tuesday) will be held on the first Tuesday in March, May, July, and September commencing at 10am. Meetings of the Mosman Local Planning Panel will be held on the third Wednesday of each month commencing at 10.30am.

Countback Elections for Councillor Vacancies

In accordance with the requirements of the NSW Local Government Act 1993, Council determined that any casual vacancy In the office of a councillor occurring within 18 months of the last council election (4 December 2021) be filled by a countback of votes cast at that election, in lieu of a by-election being held for that position.

2022 Local Government NSW Special Conference

Council resolved to approve the attendance of the Mayor and Councillors Randall and Friedrich as voting delegates at the upcoming 2022 Local Government NSW Special Conference in Sydney. A motion relating to senior staff contracts will be put forward by Mosman for inclusion on the Conference agenda.
