Council Decided - 1 September 2026
The following items were considered at the September Council meeting.
Mayoral Minute – HMAS Penguin advocacy and Community Rally
Noting the advocacy undertaken by Council to date, the Mayor presented a Mayoral Minute endorsing the use of Balmoral Rotunda as the site of a community rally to be held on Sunday 11 October. The HMAS Penguin site and the proposed sale or divestment of defence lands is recognised as a significant issue for our community.
Congratulations to Deputy Mayor Pip Friedrich
An election was held for the Deputy Mayoralty with Councillor Pip Friedrich elected for a period of 12 months. Councillor Friedrich is chair of the Access and Inclusion Community Consultative Committee and the Local Transport Forum, and a councillor representative of committees for Flood Risk Management; Audit, Risk and Improvement; the Northern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (NSROC) and the Shorelink Library Network. Congratulations Councillor Friedrich.
Youth Advisory Group
Council will be investigating the establishment of a Youth Advisory Group, aimed at giving a formal youth voice mechanism for Mosman Council’s young people and providing local and regional participation alongside our neighbour councils. Following the success and momentum of recent youth engagement activities, Council would like to build further capacity for our young people and ensure their participation in local and regional decision making.
CCTV at Balmoral in response to Tree Vandalism
The recent disappointing tree vandalism incident at Balmoral has prompted Council to consider new ways to deter this terrible practice. Council has approved the installation of CCTV to deter further vandalism and to assist in the detection of further incidents. CCTV will also aid in the identification and potential prosecution of those responsible. Council will now procure the CCTV infrastructure and plan for its installation and we will keep the community up to date on progress. In the meantime the banner installed at Balmoral will remain in place while a replacement tree reaches a sufficient height and canopy spread.
