Choose to refuse
Posted on Wednesday 15 July 2026
Plastic Free July is a global movement encouraging people to reduce single-use plastic and build lasting habits that benefit the environment.
In 2025, an estimated 174 million people participated worldwide, helping to avoid 290 million kilograms of plastic waste. This year, residents are encouraged to take the Plastic Free Pledge by choosing one single-use plastic item to refuse, such as plastic bags, takeaway cups or water bottles. Small changes, like carrying reusable cups, containers and shopping bags, can make a big difference when adopted across the community.
